A-Fraud?

Do you remember The Natural?  Not the movie with Robert Redford, but the novel the movie from which it was based? The novel ends much differently from the book.  Instead of hitting an 800-ft home run and shattering every light in the building like in the movie, Roy Hobbs takes the bribe to throw the game.  At the end of the novel, a young fan gives Hobbs the “say it ain’t so” line, to which Hobbs breaks down crying, proving his guilt.

You can understand why the end of the novel was changed for the movie.  I personally know that I wouldn’t want to spend two hours rooting for someone only to watch him throw it all away.  But if you think two hours is a long time, ask every single fan of Alex Rodriguez, who was just discovered by Sports Illustrated to have tested positive for two anabolic steroids during his MVP season in 2003.

Sunday, February 1st, Tampa, Florida. After watching the Eagles beat up on the New York Giants, I figured I was there. I took off work. I looked at airfare. I couldn't wait to get out of the frigid New Jersey air and enjoy some might fine Florida sun.

Apparently, Donovan McNabb and the Eagles defense had other plans for how I was gonna spend my Super Bowl Sunday. Bastards.

Anyway, I didn't want to let the day go completely to waste, so I decided that instead of hiding in my room and watching The Perfect Season: The 2008 Phillies Yearbook, I would watch the Steelers take on the Cards and write about it.

Besides, I can't get in trouble for this, can I?
